Using ZOE's SMTP and POP Server
ZOE has an inbuilt SMTP server. You can send email from your mail client (i.e. Mozilla, Outlook or whatever) through Zoe's SMTP server, have Zoe index it and then forward it on to the SMTP server that Zoe talks to.
To get this working, assuming you firstly have ZOE installed and capable of sending emails itself, you need to configure your email client to use ZOE as SMTP provider.
To setup ZOE as your SMTP server in your current email client:
- The SMTP server name will probably be http://localhost, http://127.0.0.1 or your own IP address.
- ZOE's SMTP server (as default) runs on port 10025, whereas the typical SMTP port is 25. Your mail client may not allow you to specify an SMTP port. If that is the case, you can configure ZOE to use the default port 25. See this item in the FAQ
- The next bit of magic is that ZOE will be expecting your mail client to authenticate (your email client is probably not authenticating by default on SMTP). So, configure the SMTP connection in your mail client to log on.
- For username, use your ZOE username, which in ZOE, is shown at the very bottom left of the screen.
- ZOE doesn't have a password by default but you may find that you have to set one up in ZOE to get this working; to do this go ZOE -> Preferences -> authentication. Don't be confused by the un-editable current password (there isn't one, right) just enter a new one and the confirmation, and then put this info in your email client SMTP connection.
- Lastly, in ZOE > <my account>, select "Forward messages to server" to instruct ZOE to forward messages you send to it on to the SMTP server it talks to.
