summary: This page describes the procedure to import archived email by sending them as attachements in email that go through Zoe.
The Process
- setup ZOE as your SMTP server in your current email client.
- Note that ZOE's SMTP server runs on port 10025.
- The SMTP server name will probably be localhost, 127.0.0.1 or your own IP address
- Use your ZOE user name and password as SMTP user name and password. For more about your ZOE user name and password see SystemConfiguration/LoginSetup?
- Forward your messages to ZOE as attachments.
- Note that this would be a good time to have unchecked the "Forward messages to server" box under SMTP on your account page.
Notes
- Zoe expects to see email attachments with the MIME type message/rfc822. Email messages with other MIME types may not be recognized.
- Problems with mail clients not sending attached emails as a type that Zoe can recognize, such as PMMail, can sometimes be fixed by adding the correct MIME type to the settings for the client.
- The FAQ claims that you must forward your messages as attachments otherwise ZOE will not recognize them as proper emails, but just as plain text (not a pretty picture). However, this is misleading: Zoe will recognize them as proper emails as long as the sender matches an email account in the application.
- After importing mail this way, you'll see the "parent message" (the one containing the attachments) listed among "Today's" mail. It's safe to delete this message. The messages forwarded as its attachments will remain in their places.
